PERCEIVED SAFETY

Why experiences matter

Many situations in which women feel unsafe are never shared. Yet women may avoid certain routes out of caution or fear, choose different times to travel, change their behaviour and, as a result, sometimes feel restricted in their freedom of movement. Focusing specifically on women’s perceived safety, supported by an app developed for this purpose, can make it easier to share these experiences.

  • Causes of feelings of unsafety become visible
  • Combined experiences reveal patterns
  • These patterns support more targeted choices in public space
